read here:
"McCain, a 71-year-old Arizona senator who would be the oldest person ever elected to a first presidential term, will argue that Americans need to take up a cause greater than themselves -- join the military, help feed the hungry, seek public office.
"Many Americans are indifferent to or cynical about the virtues that our country claims," the former Vietnam prisoner of war will say.
In part, he says, it is because some have suffered economic dislocations while others profit as never before, and in part, it is a "reaction to government's mistakes and incompetence and to the selfishness of some public figures."
He comes close to calling some Americans spoiled, saying they are cynical because "the ease which wealth and opportunity have given their lives led them to the mistaken conclusion that America, and the liberties its system of government is intended to protect, just aren't important to the quality of their lives."
Skepticism is healthy, he will say, "But when healthy skepticism sours into corrosive cynicism our expectations of our government become reduced to the delivery of services. And to some people the expectations of liberty are reduced to the right to choose among competing brands of designer coffee."

I watched ( god help me) part of his "Biography" tour this weekend.....( btw he is having memory troubles so this "tour" is a major feat for him).....He said somethings that were very concerning- and part of this came up- he said that Young people don't give enough- and he hinted at Mandatory Service ( ahem...draft ?) and I was really perturbed with his implications - that young people don't "give" enough or work hard enough.....the young people this year have turned out the Vote in RECORD numbers- the MOST ever....EVER...( ahem- DEM voters- NOT repug...obviously)......
BTW mostly the "crowd" he was speaking to was over 65- so I don't think there were many there to defend the young people...
thanks for blogging on him...
( I am going to try to watch him more and take note of his "Senior Moments"....I think it might be helpful....I might need new BP meds to keep up....or Family Size Mylanta...)
betmo
McCain is a scum but I had no idea how bad until I read the link shifter sent me this morning and i was just mortified reading his post. I hope to hell they chew him up when the race begins but Rove and Bush and their lies are dangerous. i don't see polishifter's link so if you want to read the truth about the scum check outPolishifter
Conservatism was founded on a kernel of truth wrapped in a blanket of bullshit. Unlike Enema4ever, I think he was speaking to anybody that would listen.
Entirely from the web article....
"Americans are cynical about their country, and their idea of liberty is "the right to choose among competing brands of designer coffee.""
The kernel of truth is that Americans HAVE became lazy and indifferent, re the coffee reference of his.
"What these people need, he will argue on Wednesday, is a good dose of public service."
And, like any Republican, he knows exactly what we need! He never asked us what we WANT, but he knows what we need. God speaks into yet another ear....(:
"McCain is on a nostalgic tour of places important to developing his character"
He's 71, and is just now developing character? What's next. Hearing?
"Americans need to take up a cause greater than themselves -- join the military"
Can't very well fight a hundred year war without cannon fodder, can we, Johnny?
"it is because some have suffered economic dislocations while others profit as never before, and in part, it is a "reaction to government's mistakes and incompetence and to the selfishness of some public figures.""
Noooooo Shit!! By God, he has tremendous insight as well! I'd bet anything he's a closet Oblahma admirer!

Hey, Betmo, things go from bad to worse. McCain? Does he know his name?
Worse, he'll be manipulated like George was/is.
I'm blogging like crazy, trying to get things moving but changing minds is not easy. The indoctrination is pretty strong.
You take care, you hear.
Too late - my healthy skepticism soured into corrosive cynicism long ago. For instance when he was talking about incompetent and selfish leaders who are profiting as never before on the backs of the average people it sounded to me like he was talking about himself.
We all should Boycott Anhusier Bush /Budweiser Beer....his wife's beer company that supports his "career"......
( not that I ever in my life have drank bud....)
