my buddy tua has stirred up a shitstorm as usual at his place- so i thought- ah hell, why not? and yes, i am aware i could have said 'tempest in a teapot' and it would have meant the same thing- but that's not tua. :) so- the post was about the left's self sabotage via stupidity- or that's how i read it. it was also about the various labels folks use to define and describe. saying that you don't like labels is kind of cliche- who says that they do? anyway, my whole thought is inclusiveness.
the idea of labels and categories goes along with the idea of exclusiveness- and that means discrimination- or so the logic goes. i say we just need a healthy dose of reality and a just a modicum of common sense. the truth of the matter is that the left and the right are mirrors of each other- and both are not what they should be. there was a time when this country actually functioned- back before we let the extremes of a two party system take over. i like the terms regressive and progressive to 'define' because both apply to each side equally. the people who troll on the left are the same as the trolls from the right- and yes, there are left wing trolls. take a look at malkin's blog or any of the major right wingers sites- and you see foul mouthed, vulgar hate speech-- from the left.
it is easy to get smug and feel that we are on 'the better side.' and for all intents and purposes- the left isn't trying to take over the world-- yet. but the thinking patterns are the same- regressive, maintain status quo, keep running in the wheel like a hamster-- while the world at large and this country- moves forward. there are progressives in both parties and i think that we folk who identify with that style of thinking need to band together and form our own party. i am thinking of labeling it- the common sense party. i realize that our numbers will be small- but as folks come out of the fog of stupidity- they would at least have some representation.
