WASHINGTON - President Bush has quietly claimed sweeping new powers to open Americans' mail without a judge's warrant, the Daily News has learned.
The President asserted his new authority when he signed a postal reform bill into law on Dec. 20. Bush then issued a "signing statement" that declared his right to open people's mail under emergency conditions.
That claim is contrary to existing law and contradicted the bill he had just signed, say experts who have reviewed it.

I told you that bastard is a lunatic!
WOW!!! It just keeps getting better. I wonder if this has anything to do with Harriet Miers resigning. Something else I just found out about. Things are starting to move fast now.
Isn't it ironic that Bushie has more signing statements under his belt than all other presidents COMBINED?
hannity said that some incoming senator evicted cheney from his office- but i can't find anything to back this up. we have to do something like yesterday to get these people out.
I guess I will never win the publisher's clearinghouse sweepstakes now! :-(
Betmo, it was Rangle that evicted Cheney. The thugs had let him use the Ways and Means chairman office. So now that the Dems are in, Rangel got the privlage of putting the boot to his ass. Sweet justice!
