too pooped to post

whew! jim will be glad to know i got the fam's seed potatoes in the ground today- along with peppers, tomatoes and butt loads of squash. i started the seedlings at the beginning of april and i need to get them in the ground. i will work on my garden this weekend. :) the weather was a bit cooler today than the last two. global climate change deniers can kiss my big, fat, sweaty ass- and that's no lie. our average temp is supposed to be around 60 degrees. we have been in the upper 80 degrees range and today we were in the lower 70's. 'seasonable' has changed as have the hardiness zones for planting. let's just say that the last few years have been a learning curve for me :) and it ain't over yet.

this is the overview for my longterm plan- this summer, i have planted basic veggies- squash, beans, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, etc. and i intend to add an herb garden also- as i have not incorporated the herbs directly into the garden as i originally intended. next time. this year i ordered a half a hog from a local farmer and 6 chickens and a turkey from another. not certified organic- but home grown without pesticides and drugs. the certification process for organic is arduous and takes 7 years here in new york. my chicken farmer has only been around 5 years. but, he uses the same practices certified organics do- that's good enough for me. supporting local businesses and eating real food. the carnivore- i mean mr. betmo- won't go vegan. yet.......

the animals have to have time to grow- obviously- as they aren't pumped full of growth hormones, so i had to order in the spring. won't get them until late summer/fall. planning and more planning. next summer i will add berry bushes to my yard- blueberries, strawberries, blackberries- maybe raspberries we'll see. i am looking long term to grape vines and semi dwarf or dwarf apple trees too. make wine and vinegar- and eat the fruit. i love the arbor day foundation- their trees are inexpensive and they have a wealth of info on their web site. check it out.

now, i deserve a nice hot shower (an indulgement for me. i like my showers hot so the steam rolls off) and an early evening. enjoy. :)

Ah, Betmo, I can picture the scene of you in your garden. What bliss! What you need to do is to throw your tellie out the window so you keep the ugly world at bay.

The garden, a glass of wine, some sweat on the brow, the warmth of the sun, birds calling...

Go, gal!

"i ordered a half a hog from a local farmer and 6 chickens and a turkey from another."OMG, do I ever miss the farm fed and raised food I had available in Michigan!! A side of beef, a hog, a few dozen chickens. That'd pretty well hold us for a year. We bought all our eggs from the same farmer. Huge, brown things with yolks that would stand up like a nipple in the freezer...:) Occasionally a double yolker; that was always a treat. The shit we get for eggs down here is so small I once lost my temper and bounced a dozen off the sign for the cereal aisle. Find another store time....:)

I was told take the mean (average)temp for each month, for a year. Add them all together and divide by 12 to get a fairly accurate view of the year.

I read that hardiness zone change. If they fuck with the northern climes too much, they're gonna have some gardeners breathing fire and carrying a pitch fork.:)
