'only the good' friday

wrapping up another week- never a bad thing. i am on the mend from the cold i had last week and just having the ability to breathe without sneezing is a blessing :) the weather today will be nice- near 60 degrees before raining all weekend- so i intend to open the windows and let some fresh air in for a bit. with so much depressing news out there, it's often a challenge to feel positive. especially if the state of the world directly effects you. not easy. but i look at it as- this is the only life i have and i need to live it as fully as i can no matter the circumstances.

so, i am going to commune with my gardening today- i intend to take the compostables out to the bin and i have to replant seeds in my little seed cells as some of them did not sprout. and i will turn my attention to what i am going to need to jump start my own little victory garden revolution :) seriously- if anyone wants any info on patio gardening, container gardening, backyard small gardening, non traditional landscape ideas for veggies and flowers- email or leave some questions in the comments. i have lots of info on my bookshelves. i will be boosting the garden posts just to give you the head's up :)

the usda is changing the hardiness zones soon and there's a site that predicts where drought is going to hit this year- i will be putting those out there too. until then- have a great weekend and think about starting your own garden or window box garden-- and your own 'only the good fridays'- namaste. :)

Hi B
Enjoy your day outside if you can it is gorgeous here. I was outside for a bit preparing for my corn. I have tons of composted leaves up back so I might use those extensively if not exclusively.
I may end up no till gardening with raised beds. I have done it a few times in the past and it works well. Have you? No till gardening

Hey there! Gardening sounds like a good thing indeed. I always find that when my fingers are all in the earth, and I'm feeling the sun warm my back, I forget about all the worries...at least for awhile. May your weekend be filled with loads of good!!

The snow's almost all gone in my yard finally and the chickens are thoroughly enjoying the few carrots I left in the ground last fall. Little buggers.:) Got the weekend off and it's yard clean-up time! Woo hoo...

Hey, a.v.p.,

I don't own a rototiller, so the closest thing my garden gets is a shovel to turn it and brake up the chunks in spring. We use old hay and bedding out of the chicken house, along with leaves in the fall, so come spring, underneath is nice and fluffy, but I've heard paper and leaves do the trick, too. Works great for me.:)

There's some pics of my yard last year here.

i have indeed heard of no till. i posted a couple of summers ago on it. this year i am going one 4x8 raised bed and some traditional rows- i will not be ripping out the grass to make a bed- just the rows where i put the seeds. too much work- and this configuration is temporary until i get both gardens up and running. besides, corn is a grass :)

Sounds Good B! I was out burning Branches again today from last years Ice storm and turned some soil. I will plant my onions peas and garlic as soon as I get the right spot cleared. I have a system!
