"This is, perhaps, the tentative upside of a recession. You gotta learn to do more with less. You gotta live more within your means, trim fat, scale back, bike and walk and recycle and maybe, just maybe, begin to become just slightly more aware.

It's not even much of a big deal. Hell, most Americans have generally been living beyond their means and beyond there actual needs for so long that, for much of this country, to scale back simply means moving from "gluttonous" back to merely "pampered." Which is to say, it's not exactly suffering to have to give up the Land Cruiser in favor of, say, a Honda Fit."
