too pooped to enjoy the evening

i hate that. no- i didn't usher in the official start to summer by bbq or picnic or mall sales. i mowed the grass and planted 6 rows of tomatos and did laundry with my sister. that's quite a bit for a couch potato fat chick. whew! not to mention getting up at the butt crack of dawn to get my sister to work in the first place- buses don't run on holidays. i hate holidays. especially one that has morphed into something akin to the fourth of july. memorial day isn't supposed to be about celebration- it's supposed to be about remembrance. today is memorial day observed anyway. so i guess it's moot. perhaps all of the drunks i heard partying into the wee hours of the night- all freakin' weekend- would do well to remember that. i doubt like hell any of them stepped foot into a cemetery. we would go and visit my grandfather's grave with mom- he was a world war 2 veteran. he has a white stone in the middle of a tiny pennsylvania graveyard miles from anywhere civilized. they moved the cemetery and the entire town- to put in a dam. sigh. we would stop off and go swimming in the lake made by said dam- and have a picnic when my aunts would go.

i know mom would like to go but she isn't sure she could make the trip. it is probably 2 hours or so from here one way. so- today i spent time in the garden and chatting with her because someday i will be making that 2 hour trip one way to visit 2. namaste.

In addition to honoring and remembering the fallen, we should all be bearing the full brunt of guilt, for sending many (Viet Nam, Afghanistan, and Iraq) of them prematurely and needlessly to their graves for our hegemonic and Imperialistic agendas.

I spent the weekend looking to the needs of family. I figured that was the best tribute that I could make to my lost loved ones who died serving us all. . .

You aren't alone. As bad as I hate to admit it, the Jesus Freaks down here teach their kids the true meaning of holidays - then they get drunk and screw their Daughters.:)
