yes, there are many reasons- but i am still reading the assault on reason. chapter 2 blew me away- all of the research i have done over the past year or so was confirmed and vindicated. i have just started chapter 3- and i personally think he should have gotten the nobel for literature too....
"if citizens no longer participate, those among them who notice signs of corruption or illogic have no way to voice their concerns and summon the attention of others who, upon examining the same evidence, might share their dismay. no critical mass of opposition can form among individuals who are isolated from one another, looking through one-way mirrors in soundproof rooms, shouting if they wish but still unheard. if enough citizens cease to participate in its process, democracy dies."

That quote has great meaning, to me. I keep wondering why so many are afraid to speak out. I understand the need to be heard. I wish we were.
Good one, Betmo! We must persevere, we must keep on keepin' on, fighting the good fight with all that is in us.
That paragraph could describe the blogs and could also account for why so many people - just stop blogging eventually dispite those with many commenters. Still one feels that sense of isolation. Perhaps it is also providing a safety valve against a more untited oppostiton, hence why free speech "appears" to be tolorated in our culture by virture of these blogs. ..just sayin. Of course information is provided and collective unconscious and the consciousness of the people shifts - but where are the results ?? Maybe time will tell i.e. If Hillary is NOT annointed after all. Still the ONE party system seems to give us only a choice of the lesser of two evils- On the subject of Gore. Really we need a viable third party , i would like to think that if Hillary is elected ONE will form - many one called the Progressive Dems - as the Green Party could also grow as well. But the writing is on the wall there - any progressive that goes third party gets reemed as a spoiler - yet when conservatives or fundies do it - its A O K to most people - I still do not really understand that double standard. Who could blame Gore for not wanting to be a part of the "problem" in Washington but rather to work outside of it - changing public opinion on a massive scale.
