first, let me say- live earth was great!! i know gore, et al are taking heat for the concerts not having a point- or whatever. gore has stated that this is a launching point for a comprehensive plan over the next 3-5 years to combat global warming and this is the jumping off point- so let's all jump off together- and save our planet!!
second, anyone who reads here regularly knows i speak my mind the way i see it. this is not tv- and it is not a democracy. my words here are mine- and the tone of the blog is mine. i welcome comments of any stripe- except spam and extreme vulgar or derogatory language aimed at a particular person. what you say to me- i can handle. this is the internet and if you don't grow a thick skin- it's better not to blog at all. which brings me to my point. it has been my experience that when i rip the right a new asshole- i hear no end to the accolades. when i start ripping the left- well, not so much. let me spell it out here- being a good person or being tolerant of everyone- isn't going to work this time around. there is a time and a place for the 'politics as usual' mode of being a democrat- peace, love, harmony, bleeding hearts, etc.- now is not it. are we going to tolerate the complete annihilation of our country and planet simply because we have to 'live and let live' and try to be inclusive? i am not saying that we have to turn on each other like a pack of dogs- what i am saying is- if you aren't part of the solution- you are part of the problem.
having said this- i will now say this- if it makes you feel good to go to church and sit your ass in a pew every saturday or sunday- or whatever your pleasure may be- and fill the coffers for whatever reason- then you are part of the problem. i don't give a rat's ass if you are left or right. we are in a 'flame war' with christians and that's no lie. i have been accused of lumping all christians together and that's true too- correctly or incorrectly. i won't keep explaining myself because if you aren't hearing me- you don't want to. learn about your religion. not the lofty elements- i mean where your church money goes and what it supports. learn about your denomination. i'll bet you'd be surprised at where the money is going. it isn't just the televangelists who use their money for secular purposes.
the bottom line is- religion is a crutch for the believers and a tool for the powers that be. it really is that simple. the other simple thing is this- most of us are adults here. i don't censor and i don't hold back. if you don't like what you see- turn the channel. there are millions of blogs on the internet. i am not that much of a numbers whore that i will try and hold you to the last second. i just find it to be incredibly hypocritical that the left is getting it's panties in a wad over being called out on christianity- but it's ok for the rest of us to blast the right. perhaps a reality check is in order for the left wing. i never proposed to be anything other than i am- and really- if you can't stand the heat- leave the kitchen.

I'm here for the duration. I'm afraid you're gonna have to kick me out.
P.S. Would you just ONCE, say what you really think? ROTFLMAO!!
yeah, you're pretty vague there, dear. actually, later today i'm going to write a post in support of churches - but it's gonna be abt gay churches, a horse of a different color.....see you over there, later.
*kiss, kiss, kiss* You're soooo stuck with this particular "idealist polytheist"!!! *cackle*
you know what? I think that even if people don't go to church or hold believes in any kind of religion, human nature being what it is, 'it' would be substituted for something else. I think what you're referring to is the lack of critical thinking or holding people accountable, them being of your religion or not. Left or not, religious or not. When I lived in Saudi Arabia for a few years post Gulf war, I kinda had a 'revelation' of sorts. I did not live on a compound, and found myself friends with mostly Asians; Indians, Pakistanis, Phillipinos, and also Americans Canadians.. the mix. Being in such a multiculture (expat wise) I saw 'groups' of people bearing similarities. You could see 'culture' and 'personalities' being delineated. Religion did not really matter as the human psychology was the same. I am perhaps not articulating it well Betmo, but trust me, religion is just one crutch. There are many many others that have people base their decisions on. A true critical and discriminating mind is hard to find.

I won't be leaving your kitchen, I like the way you cook.
So many people go around doing things and not knowing what is really going on - they just act in rote. Then there's the Right Wing talk show people who want us to not watch news wiht details on Iraq - Yeah, right - we're paying for the damn thing and we are accountable for what our government does, but we shouldn't watch them.
I wish I could find something to disagree with, in what you wrote, but can't!
Trust me, you are not alone in these feelings.
