we can't keep waiting for the world to change

my friend and i were talking about the baby boomers and how that generation has not only managed to screw this country up- but really the whole world- and continue to do so. what i find interesting is that the boomers apparently don't want to take any responsibility for it even now. no, they blame the gen xers and gen ys and gen whatevers for being slackers and being uninvested in the future. they blame their children and grandchildren for being pampered and overindulged- but don't want to take responsibility for doing it. if you look at who's running the show these days- guess who it is? but-- they don't want to be held at fault. no. carol orsborn has written a book and is a member of a blog aimed at the boomers. these folks don't want to gracefully go into that great good night- they want to continue to run things even when it is clear that they suck at it. my reply to carol- stop wasting your energy on telling me and my generation not to hate you or blame you- take that energy and make fucking amends.

"Waiting On The World To Change"- john mayer

Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

How can anyone argue with what you have written.

As you stated, look at who has messed our world up, and sadly enough, look at who has allowed it to happen.

I don't know. I'm not a baby boomer - missed that boat and I do wonder when if ever they will wake up and force changes, real changes.

Your train of thought has been something that has been bugging me a lot for a long time.

The song...all jazzy as it is, makes me cry. Reading the lyrics, saddens me. I nod my head as if I'm actually having a conversation with the singer.

We'll all be waiting for a long time for the world to change. Better get a comfy chair and a thick rug for when it gets chilly.

well, see- i don't think we should wait for the world to change. we should start changing it. apparently, that's where i differ from the boomers.

As a desperately under-talented guitarist wannabe who listens to a LOT of talented guitar players, I can tell you that this guy isn't just a pretty boy pop star who hangs with Jessica Jiggleson. This boy can PLAY.

I say the same thing to my religious friends.

Stop waiting for God to come and make the world better. God is waiting for YOU to make the world better.
