tuesday peace now! post

sitting here having my morning cuppa- and wondering what more i can possibly say about the need for peace. it completely baffles me how there are people in this country, and around the world, who glorify war and think it is a perfectly acceptable means to an end. if i stop to think about the lives shattered and lost due to arrogance and war mongering, it overwhelms me. there is never a good excuse for going to war. there is never a good excuse to start a war. some would say- we need to defend ourselves- and i would say- see above. yes, i am sophisticated enough to see that people need to defend themselves against aggression- but my point is that the aggressor shouldn't have started a war.

here's the deal: none of the nations we are currently at war with started shit with us. none. iran did not start anything with us. they didn't. in this round of war, we are the aggressors and there is no way to candy coat it. we have put ourselves in league with some of the most famous dictator states from around the world- saddam hussein included. any time a nation starts invading and occupying other sovereign nations, it should give the world pause. europe took a lot of flak in history books for not standing up to german aggression sooner. i ask you-- what is happening now?

let the scales fall from your nationalistic eyes and wake up. we are single handedly re-igniting the nuclear arms race and a recent news headline said that nuclear war is a possibility. if ever there was a reason for peace now! i would say this is it.

It's not a surprise that when we elect neocon nut jobs to our highest offices, they want to dictate to the world how to live.

If we never had a 9/11, we still would have had these oppressors shredding our Constitution, they believe their way is the only way, and all others must live their way.

The 9/11 attack was just the opportunity they needed to go off the deep end, and into their dictator mode.

It's also not surprising (and the neocons knew this) that the people, after being attacked, would jump on the band wagon of war.

Toss in a few strategic lies by our leaders, and you have 80% of the country ready to attack. In this country all you need is a majority to do anything including, kill people.

We can be optimistic, through freedom of the press and our other Constitutional checks, the people now know the truth and have done a 180 degree turnaround.

But is it to late? We are now stuck with this mess and the bad feelings from around the world that come with what we have done.

Bush/Cheney should have been impeached to stop future horrible decisions.

But a country willing to impeach a President for sexual misconduct, does not have the stomach to impeach a President who is a real danger to the country, go figure.

We've now had our first elected representative publicly call for an attack on Iran (Sen. Joe Leiberman). There will be more. One can only guess how much the administration has wanted to attack Iran.

Bush/Cheney are literally to blame, but as you know, I lay the responsibility at the feet of the American people.

If we weren't so lazy, so weak and easily led, so gullible to political salesmanship, or so unable to pull ourselves away from our materialistic-pop culture lifestyles; maybe we could get serious and actually control our own destiny.

It only seems right that given the way things have been regressing in the world since a certain person took power in early 2001 that he would lead us to the brink of nuclear war. I can only hope that cooler heads prevail because while our nation's roots are based in war, our present and future doesn't need to be that way.

I have a strong feeling the 'cooler heads' may end up being the military. They may just refuse to do it. Since the military knows that Congress is unwilling to impeach, it may all boil down to a military coup. Will this happen? I don't know. Can this happen? You betcha. Our country is in crisis, and it matters not which definition of the word you use.

I say:
And really, as you imply later in your comment- except be able to get a mad little tyrant and his bosses impeached.

It seems that this is what 99% of this world's population wants, but 1% governs the planet...AND WE CAN'T STOP THEM. I hope with you though.

Even 3 years ago I would never have thought this possible, but neither would I have thought that the devastation and destruction created by bush/cheney would be possible in that short of a period of time. I don't want to be misunderstood here, but a military coup (broadly [loosely] defined) would be...interesting- I'm saying to avert a bush created disaster- like Martial Law and dissident round-up. Think about all of the Generals/Admirals/Colonels (albeit retired, but an indicator) that have spoken out against this regime in power.

i'm thinking vaw and ivaw as well. possibly why bushco wants to beef up police and fbi special forces around the country. let's not forget the soldiers of god- mercenaries.

mercenaries- guns for hire, swell headed delusions of grandieur---

"give me a 'badge' and a gun and I have power over you".

I imagine there's still some good old boys in Montana and other places that can and would put those guns where they belong.
