post for peace

don't know what they official topic is at one million blogs for peace yet- but hey, i got stuff to do so i decided to write my own. there are a million reasons, afterall, to be an activist for peace. there is no defense for continuing the war in iraq and afghanistan at this point and we should be working diplomatically with the folks in the region to stop the insanity. that includes israel. at this point, it would probably be ineffectual. but that's not the point of this post. 'movin' on...'

if you take all of the lies and machinations and manipulations from the bush admin over the last 6 years and you sum them up and really think about them, there are no good reasons to have done what we did. al quaida is still out there; homeland security is a joke, and the world is more dangerous than ever before. that is why we, the people, have to work hard to show to the rest of the world that our government is not representing us. we have to take every opportunity in our daily lives to get that message out there- to fellow americans and to the rest of the world. we have a real shot at repairing our image if we can prove ourselves to a global family. the value in that- we can re-establish diplomacy.

the reason for peace? think about why there is 'terrorism' and how it is set up. anywhere in the world- here included- it is the hopeless and the disenfranchised who feel trapped in despair. why is there a hamas? a hezbollah? an al quaida? think about the fact that there are entire generations of young people being killed and the impact that will have on the world- our sciences and technology- our math and literature- our political spectrum. america has sent a generation of young people to die and to kill-- we are killing generations of young people indiscriminately- just think about the middle east for a moment. cities in ruin and their future undetermined. because of us. because of greed. we must fight for peace- and win.

lying, dying, crying
troops deployed; bombs dropped; lives lost-
our mother earth weeps

betmo,

Peace cannot exist in a world where the "Military Industrial Complex" is making billions of tonnes of Weapons and Explosives every year. Peace cannot exist in a world where Industrialization has destroyed all Ecosystems - where Mother Earth has been raped and plundered in the name of progress and development.

In this context I want to post a part from my article which examines the impact of Speed, Overstimulation, Consumerism and Industrialization on our minds and environment. Please read.

The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.

The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.

Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel.
Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet.
Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.

Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking.

If there are no gaps there is no emotion.

Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion.

When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing.

There comes a time when there are almost no gaps.

People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps.

Emotion ends.

Man becomes machine.

A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety.

Fast visuals/ words make slow emotions extinct.

Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys emotional circuits.

A fast (large) society cannot feel pain / remorse / empathy.

A fast (large) society will always be cruel to Animals/ Trees/ Air/ Water/ Land and to Itself.

sushil- i don't disagree with what you are saying. but if we don't try- what then? should those of us who are not in the fast lane roll over and just let what is happening happen? if we can focus people on environmental issues and peaceful ones- it is a start towards a solution. people are very aware now that our planet is in danger. large groups of people take time to change their cultures and ways of life. is it futile? perhaps. but i think it is our duty out of basic respect for human dignity to try. for every life lost- it is the loss of someone who could offer something to humanity. high minded ideals i know- but it's how i try to live my life.
