i am glad

that there are so many folks out there keeping on top of the news. let's face it- things have been a bit hectic around here for this portion of the 'meltdown' starring oh- quite a few people. i don't think that focusing on the issues at hand is beating a dead horse. putting all of the horse crap into one pile just makes it easier to clean up. i think that it is important for the issues to remain out there and we have to look past the sweet innocent optimism that is the current repub campaign strategy. they intend to forego the negative campaign smears that have worked for them so well in the past and instead focus on 'local' issues district to district. um- ok. they intend to spread their optimism and apparently, according to our fearless leader- our economy and security- and this is what is going to vault them back into the seat of power in november. if not- well, it doesn't hurt to have halliburton start to build those pesky internment camps for the massive influx of refugees and immigrants that are going to flock to the land of an immasculated constitution and non existent habeus corpus (formerly known as democracy). since our fearless leader put a cap of 70,000 on the number of refugees coming to this country- wonder why they need so many camps that can house so many? oh- right- for the 70% or so of americans in this country who don't agree with them. my bad. are you also wondering why they want to lift the current amendment that limits presidential terms? and why they want to do away with the part of the constitution that is left that says that a president has to be born an american in order to serve? i am. maybe it isn't top on the list- but it gets a hmmmm from me.

update- the info on the proposals to repeal presidential term limits

I believe there are some aging Japanese people, who lived in the US during WWII, who I'm sure have opinions about internment camps.

This new book that's coming out tells about the way the administration used the Religious Right and it's gonna light one more fire.

One of my collegues is Japanese American. Her grandparents were in the internment camps in WWII. We've discussed it many times. And I mentioned on my own blog that I used to shop at Toguri Imports, on Belmont, in Chicago. This shop was owned by Iva Ioguri, aka Tokyo Rose. Iva, born in Los Angeles, was in Tokyo when Pearl Harbor was attacked. She was unable to leave Japan, and forced to do the radio broadcasts. Convicted of treason, she served six years in prison before Gerald Ford pardoned her. She was a lovely, energetic AMERICAN woman, and treated horribly by our government.

Carbunclefrank is right - the November 7 2006 election is going to determine the future of our nation. If we don't take back control of both houses, I believe there will not be an election in 2008
