'it's too darn hot'
sweet jesus in a thong! (thanks to dusty at 'it's my right to be left of center' ) it is uncomfortably hot. for you folks in the west and midwest- thanks but we'd prefer not to share! we here in new york are about 10 degrees hotter than we should be and will be that way for the next day or two. we have a high heat and humidity warning going on here in binghamton- and i am sitting in front of the fan sweating my ass off- no spadoman- we only have air conditioning to sleep. not that i couldn't stand to lose some of my ass- that's for sure. the heat tends to make me cranky- so if my posts have a bit of an edge to them in the next few days- or the whole month of august- you'll know why. as i am fond of telling my husband- if i wanted to live where it is hot, i would have moved closer to the equator. the cats are understandably less than thrilled and the small one has taken to demanding an ice cube in her water periodically. i don't envy them their little fur coats that's for sure. the only consolation i have is this is a global heat. at least we are all sharing the wealth- from europe to south america to the arctic- the globe is hot, hot, hot!

My daughter told me it was 112 in Chicago yesterday. 90 degrees at 6 AM there. This is just not right.
It barely reached 80 here today..ha, ha!
I'm with you betmo, I am tired of the freaking heat.
I already have a hard time sleeping without my hubby at home, but I can't even sleep when I am dog tired because I find that I am soaked to the gills, sweating my butt off at one in the morning.
I live westerly, but this is insane.
Thankfully, the temps have been a little more manageable the last couple of days and I have been conserving water by checking the weather before watering my lawn (if there is a 30% chance of rain within 24 hours of my "officially designated" watering day, I let mother nature water my lawn and save the tap water for the kids). Despite the heat, I haven't had to water in over a month.
But, it sure would be nice if this felt more like Indian Summer and less like H-E-Double Hockey Sticks!
Hate to brag, but it's really nice here on the beautiful shores of Lake Supior.. 78 degrees today, lows in the high 50's tonight.
Tomorrow, I'll be in the camper with the Grandkids. Yippeeee!
You have my complete sympathy. My mother used to wear her bathing suit, wet down with the hose or a shower and do her housework, then going back to douse herself again. Might be a good time to hose down. Take care and watch for dehydration - seriously.
spado- you are bragging :) i would tag along- but you know how i feel about camping :)
I miss the snow, the sleet, & if I ever meet the Heat Mizer, remember him? I am going to punch him in the gall bladder often and with great force
Yes - too hot today.
NO JOKE it's HOT>>>
and I don't like it
blah!
i got mad 2night watching the news because there were people in chicago complaining about it being in the high 90s and saying things like "it's just not fair"
i'm like come on man, look at the map and enjoy your 90s.

yes! New York is too hot. and what really stinks about it all is that I have about an hour and fifteen minute commute to the city every day. sometimes shorter. but in this heat buses break down and cars overheat so the roads are just a mess. Sometimes I'll leave two hours to get to work and still get there late. it's ridiculous. but the bus is nice and air conditioned. :) I met at least five people today who were asking me where the buses went because they just got on to keep in the air conditioning.
vote for al gore in '08 and maybe things will get cooler. :)

You've been at this far longer than I, as well as being a much better writer than I. But did you mean to say "The heat tends to make me [more] cranky?:) LOL!! Since we moved here, we've had two days below the century mark - and that's before the "heat index" is factored in.
I blame Al Gore. If he hadm't made that damn movie.......!:)
Good to see you in usual [cranky] form again, kid!
dan- are you trying to tell me something :) believe it or not- i haven't complained about winter in about 5 years. i used to be cold all of the time. now- i am still cold but you can always layer. you can only get so naked. i am off to bed now- we have air conditioning in there. night night :)
I've been even lazier, with this heat.
Cheer up folks!! I wanna extend an invite to all of ya'll. If you wanna learn about cooling off, you can come and spend some time with The Katrinacrat. Beautiful southern Louisiana has a great big thing to offer you. Feel free to come and lounge around in our cool and snow ridden climate.
Enjoy our lovely weather, and go home to brag about your time away in paradise. Make sure to tour our sights too. Bayou scenes with all the post hurricane clean up still going on, is sure to make you the envy of your friends. Make sure to take pics, because they will not believe you when you tell them about it.
RSVP now, and take the exciting vacation of a life time. Don't let this pass you by.
I'm definitely a Fall/Winter person. Summer was never a season I liked.
Actually, I'm not much of a sunshine person. I prefer cloudy days with a bit of rain, maybe a small storm.
Donnie, I know you are being sarcastic. However, heat is a major concern for older people and children. My employer has no business, because his older patients will not go outside. Plus, there are individuals in Detroit who are not as lucky as the comfortable people who live in the more wealthy suburbs. I always hear the news reports of people who do perish.
As I'm sure you know all too well, Mother Nature is very cruel.
Sarah,
Indeed I was being sarcastic. I do not take this lightly. The meaning was to say that if you think it is hot up north, take a trip down here. WE got real heat here, and it is like deja vu, from last year.
Sometimes, humor is all we have left down here.
Betmo it is hot here too and I have no interest in the outdoors lately. My garden is melting. The beach? Fugedaboudit. I forced the cat into the studio w/me which once she got there she seemed to like. I haven't run or walked in weeks.
And in Canada? The land of dog sleds and igloos?? It's 115 degrees F.
ACK!!!
My dog doesn't really understand why she's not getting walked much... poor thing. Wish I could explain. But sheesh, she's panting after just peeing for pete's sake!!
I imagine Binghamton weather is a lot like Ottawa. I've heard that, except for a Russian/Siberian city (don't remember which one), Ottawa has the largest temperature extreme in the world.
From (on average in deg C) 30+ to 30- which would be from 86 above 0 to 22 below 0 in F. And its not uncommon to beat those be a long shot in both directions.
So what the hell am I doing here? Well, either I'm really tough or really stupid. And I'm sure not tough. :)
