I hadn't known that, yet I'm not the least bit surprised. It follows a well established pattern...(: "He" will take as much as Congress is willing to give him, and right now, that's the whole ball of wax. We are, for all intents and purposes, living within a Dictatorship. However: If a Dem gets in next time? Are they going to throw away all this "mined information." I think not. They will only use it in perhaps a more subtle manner.

Of course, they won't.
Nor will they be inclined to hand back any of the other dictatorial powers, and the spoils thereof, that Bush has worked so tirelessly to invest in the presidency. That's the tricky thing about power.
I have reached the conclusion that Republicanism is a mental disorder. Nothing else explains the eagerness of Republicans to give authoritarian powers to George W. Bush, knowing perfectly well that he could be succeeded by a Democrat, who would have the same powers.
Republicans are convinced that Bush is the one leader in all of human history who is able to resist the corrupting influence of near-absolute power. They accept his goodness as an article of faith. We know that they are wrong, but let's say for the sake of argument that we grant their point. Are they convinced also in the infallibility of whomever succeeds their Great Leader? Will they be as comfortable with an authoritarian Hillary Clinton as they are with an authoritarian George W. Bush? Not likely.
However, Republicans will defend this president's dictatorial inclinations with every fiber of their beings. They will brand as a traitor anyone who dares to disagree with them on this (or any other) point.
No doubt about it. The only word for it is, "insanity."
