you know Ihad to memorize and can still recite the preamble to the constitution and the begining of the declaration of independence. We had to learn that in school. My kids never had to. I think it's a shame that they don't feel it's important anymore.
Like Dawn, I too "had" to learn to recite the preamble, as well as the Gettysburg address, and of course, the pledge of Allegiance. All this in the fourth grade.:)
I am glad you are doing these posts. As the other readers have commented, it seems we may take too much for granted. I have never been a big conspiracy theory believer, but the length to which our current administration will go to invade our privacy is frightening and disturbing. Children should be taught about the Constitution every year, maybe then we will never have another president so willing to violate it.
Also, betmo, would you mind if I posted a link to your "Americas" post in my blog. I have my blog mirrored on a local site that gets a lot of hits. I think that post may be the best I have ever seen and I would like more people to see it.

I really liked you response to "G" about religion and the United States government. Nicely said!

The essence of these documents, require vigilance, to maintain their democratic spirit. They were born of revolution.
