not being one myself, i am calling on men out there to help me out. my rant is about men driving. now, i know the stereotype is about women drivers- but i have first hand and second hand very recent information. my experience happened just yesterday as i sat at a stop light waiting at the light- as it was red- to make a right hand turn. now, the remarkable thing was- i was stopped right next to the big sign that said: "no turn on red" in big black letters. so- i was waiting for the light to turn green in order to complete my said turn. imagine my surprise when i heard a horn honk. i thought someone at the other light wasn't moving fast enough- as it had turned green- but no- apparently, the impatient guy somewhere behind me in line was honking at me. now, i figured this out because not one- but three- yes, three- cars each with a male driver passed me on the left in the left turn lane and made right turns. i, and the older lady directly behind me, was fairly surprised. not done yet, i continued on my way home. i was nearly sideswiped by a guy who was supposed to stop at a stop sign- you know the large, red, octagonal signs that say 'stop' in big black letters? then, at the final stop sign- i started to stop and look first to my left to see if there was any traffic to make- you guessed it- another right. well, the 3 seconds it took me to do that and a guy came up behind and zoomed past through the parking lot to my right and cut me off as i made the right.
not to be outdone, my friend came to visit from my old hometown about 50 miles to the west- and as she was on the highway going home, she was almost killed as a guy in a sporty car cut her off and weaved in and out of traffic- and cut off 3 tractor trailers- only to be pulled over by a state trooper. now, maybe this is a new york thing and maybe not- i just don't know because my only point of reference at this time is my husband and he doesn't drive that way- to my knowledge. i would appreciate any thoughts by the guys out there as to why they seem to have an aversion to the brake pedal, waiting their turn and following the rules of the road. thanks

I cannot speak for my entire gender. However, I will tell you, in terms of cars, it's like an extension of our penises (or peni, if you will). We like to jerk them around, stick them in places they shouldn't go, and basically use them aggressively sometimes.
Its a testosterone thing. I get serious road rage all the time, and can't believe I haven't killed someone yet.
However, in Maine, it's not what gender you are, it's where you're from. Massachusetts drivers, or Mass-holes, are notoriously bad drivers...second only to the two tied for 2nd: NY and NJ drivers (sorry). I'm not sure if upstate counts, I'll let you know.
i see. so there's no help for me and no cure. at least i know that i don't drive the invisible car.
Oh, now. That's witty.
...and suddenly, memories of a hysterical telephone conversation turn gauche. Der-her.
And I know for a fact you know more boys than Mister B. There are two part timers upstairs, and one downstairs, and there's the neighborhood watch and the "cadaverous, shiftless" man with the broom. Also Mr. Magnificent and a movie star soldier, an ass-of-all-trades and a chipmunk. Ask them.
unfortunately,or fortunately, a few of those folks don't drive at all and that's not a bad thing. i have a feeling that i should blame testosterone for the world's ills. the need to conquer, the need to drive crazy, the need to not think. i am beginning to think that my theory that women are higher up on the evolutionary ladder is right on. i mean, come on, geraldine ferraro would not have gotten us into iraq the first time or this time. i am only speculating on her driving abilities.

yes, NY drivers are horrible! Living in the city myself I can vouch for that. I don't know about upstate either, but in general people seem calmer upstate. In the city everyone is rushed and the driving is terrible.
The crazy drivers generally seem to be men. I know my father drives horribly. He was once pulled over for drunk driving when he was perfectly sober. The cop even made him take a breathilizer.
sweet jesus- we need a man vaccine! do you think that it will leap species like the bird flu? :)
haha. you never know...it might.
There's craziness everywhere! Here in Florida, I can't say that I have experienced craziness to the degree you have, my friend. That beats everything I have seen. Now I have been around college students with a few years of driving experience that do stupid things, and I've encountered older stupid people in my daily 20 mile commute from the thriving metropolis that I call a "redneck town" to where I work. So now I say, if you can't beat 'em, run 'em over! LOL
