oh- that's what we did wrong...

apparently, the miners trapped in an tasmanian mine- for 10 days and counting- got ipods to while away the hours. not to make light of the situation- but i am sure they would rather be rescued. meanwhile, the sole survivor of the west virginia mine debacle has spoken out about what really happened in the mine. the respirators didn't work. i wonder if the company will give the families big screen tvs to compensate?

ok- we have given them dinners, ipods and yogurt- can we just get them the hell out of the ground now? i am sure that they would like to go home safely.

i really feel that we need to rethink our mining policies. i know that the scandal here in the states is the level of safety for the miners. there is some question of the sago mines cutting corners or not having safe equipment, etc. not that an underground mine can ever be completely safe- but it is important to have companies that actually give a damn. sounds like these folks give a damn to work for so long to get these miners out- and all facetiousness aside- to make them as comfortable as they can be under the dire circumstances.

i read a few articles and one said that australia has a pretty good safety record for mining. i guess that's something. america, on the other hand, claims to value the common man- and average worker- but our record is abyssmal. to all of those folks who are working around the clock to free these guys- a hearty thank you should go out. to the 2 guys trapped- i think it is incredible that they are still going strong after 12 days. amazing.
