hypocrisy knows no bounds

here's a question- could be viewed as rhetorical i suppose but i'll throw it out- why is it that when bill clinton was president there wasn't a day that went by that someone on the right wasn't throwing a bomb at him and his administration- but now when the left is critical of the current regime- we are all supposed to put up and shut up? i have noticed that there is very much an attitude from the right of 'we're in charge now and are going to stay that way so go away' and quite frankly it makes me mad. i was by no means a clinton groupie and i don't think that he was all that great of a president. it had zero to do with his zipper- he just didn't do a great job. he was a bit hobbled by the repubs in congress- but hey that's the way the system works- checks and balances don't ya know. i am tired of feeling alienated in my own country and i think that that is why i fall into the trap of lumping everyone on the right into the loud mouthed, yelling, bigoted, corporate loving, mean spirited stereotype. i would love to be proved wrong- and indeed there are thoughtful people who will open dialogue- but so far most of the places i have looked have hammered the stereotype home. i have tried to find a right leaning blog that doesn't call all people on the left crazy or un-american or just dismisses us altogether-unsuccessfully. i have tried to foster an openess on my blog that welcomes discussion and tries not to bash people personally. i have found less than a handfull and i link to them at this time. i am telling you right now that i am angry about this because i am not going to go and live in france and i am not going to put up and shut up when almost half of the country i live in is trying to take my life away from me. i am going to fight as hard as i can to expose the ignorance and the simplistic notions that these people live by and try to set an example that the left can go by.

I agree with you. There is insufficient respect for leftwing views in America (from what I've seen of US politics, while living in Texas and Washington DC).

The left is kept as a minority outside of mainstream politics.

In Australia there is much more respect for the left with our (large) Labor Party, Democrats and Greens often holding the balance of power in Federal or State politics. The shift from blue collar jobs to "white collar" has broken down unions but respect for leftwing views is still there.

Betmo I'm linking with your blog and I'm very appreciative that you have already linked to mine.

Pete

I'm with you on this. Iwasn't a Clinton obsesse either. I think they don't like criticizm or controversy where there involved.

I think it's symptomatic of the fact that the "right" is so well organized. It's members demand homogeneity which translates into extreme ease in executing strategy.

We (meaning everyone else who actually cares) can learn a lot from this. Of course, we'll have more disagreements since we invest a lot into free-thinking, but we need to be as involved as humanly possible--on all fronts.

hey betmo, check out this response to my last Hillary post. I am sorry I did it now. It sounds like this guy may be a little shady. He is from New York so I thought it might interest you. Shawn
