speaking of germs...

as i sit here with still watery eyes and a yucky nose

love thy germs

i don't buy antibacterial stuff on purpose either. if i have to really clean something, regular cleaning supplies do well. basic soap, etc. i am actually trying to get back to using basics- vinegar, baking soda, etc. haven't taken the big plunge yet- but that's on the to do list.

i watch commercials for bacitracin and neosporin and i say to hubby- christ, these kids are namby pamby. i just wiped the blood off and kept playing- unless it wouldn't clot. then, in i would go to wash it out and slap a bandaid on it. soap and water and did it sting like a mofo! i grew up in florida and when you ride your bike on an unpaved, limestone road- and fall- odds are you are going to take the skin off of your leg. which i did. i promptly limped home and jumped in the shower and let's just say- it hurt. and it was my pre-swearing days as i was a kid.

anyhoo, the sickness is making me ramble- and my last thoughts- dirt isn't horrible. dust isn't horrible. needs to be cleaned but not to with an inch of its life. germs aren't the baddies- viruses are and i doubt that there's much on the market to fight those. just sayin'

Straight (right out of the jug) 5% distilled white vinegar is reputed to be able to kill 85-90% of germs. The reason it's not marketed as a cleaner is Heinz never registered it with the FDA as a germ killing agent/cleaner. Sure it stinks......that other shit doesn't?

I clean windows with 1/4-1/2 teaspoon liquid detergent,
3 tablespoons vinegar, 2 cups water, poured into a squirt bottle and shook up a little. The purpose of the soap is to cut the residue all the commercial cleaners (windex, et al) leave from previous cleanings. Ditto my car windows. They get spotless in half the time with half the effort!!

I clean all our toilet seats with straight vinegar, as well as our stove top, all counter tops, and all cutting boards. If you space that out on a schedule so everything is not getting cleaned at once, a couple open windows and a fan will clear the stink in minutes.

Betmo:
You said it, Kid. Right on! My parents couldn't spare the beer money for all that namby pamby stuff. Nor band aids. I just stuck toilet paper on it.

Dan'l: Besides which, a gallon of vinegar is way cheaper than that other stuff.

It does look like kids are being wrapped in a metaphorical bubble-wrap to prevent the most trivial of knocks and scrapes. I certainly don't think it's a good idea but I would not recommend going to play with a broken wrist as I did when I was 7!
