just guessing here

but if folks are laying planks over cracks in the ice- perhaps it would be a good idea NOT to go out onto the ice. just sayin'...

I was listening to this earlier and the police chief was pissed that all those fools went out there knowing the ice was unsafe.
I am sorry one guy died but he took that chance! I was a major risk taker but never risked anyone else lie except for my sons though I never got into a situation i could not command in time of crisis.

What has always peeved me when idiots take foolish risks and some poor would be rescuer has to risk his or her life to save them.
I agree with the Police chief, my thoughts were with the rescuers and the fools better be made to pay us back!

totally agree abt paying for the rescue. it's not like these were 10 yr olds unable to appropriately assess risk. my guess is also these guys will rack up medical bills that are not paid. am not usually so harsh - but is this NOT the time to think of the burdens of all and try to make them lighter??

Here in Arizona we have a Stupid Driver Law. If some dummy does something stupid that puts the lives of others in jeopardy he gets charged for it. During the months of mid June through mid September we get frequent flash flooding here from sudden storms. People are warned not to try driving through flooded areas, yet they do it all the time. A few years ago one dummy thought he could drive through a flooded wash because he was driving a Hummer. He and his family, including his children had to be rescued from their vehicle at night, during a storm, by helicopter. It was a harrowing rescue to say the least. By the Grace of God neither the rescuers nor the rescuees died or were injured. The driver was fined $2,000 and had to pay for the cost of the rescue. We need this type of law for other stupid people acts too, in every state.

I'm from Michigan, and ice fishing on Saginaw Bay has a huge following. Every year, dozens of fools have to be rescued from ice that broke away from the main pack and started drifting out to open water.

Let the fuckers float until the bay freezes again next year....!!

It was in the 50s here yesterday and most of the snow was melting of course. There's a pond not to far away and there were quite a few guys out there fishing ; (

We wondered why they'd take that chance.....

What can you say? ; (
