state of flux

by this time, no one wants to see another post from me :) it's the reflective time of year for me because much of the nice weather work is done- and it frees me up to bake christmas cookies. sigh. starting that next week. yes- i start way early because i send out probably 10 packages or more a season. more this year. most of our friends and family live far away- too far to visit because i will be damned if i pay outrageous airfare and make cookies! :) anyhoo- hubby and i decided to forego christmas presents for a variety of reasons- not the least of which we aren't christians- one of which being we don't have anything we want and another being- we have an apartment without enough room for our life as it is. so- here we are. deciding to get the new furniture. well, now we need new blinds. and new area rugs. and a new paint job. this is some present! :) actually, it was my idea- but don't tell anyone- shhhh. anyhoo- the apartment is in some uproar now as we move things around and finish stripping the woodwork- which looks incredible fyi. why people paint over old woodwork is beyond me. strip and sand- and you have something beautiful. i don't use the stinky stripper (i hope i don't get p-o-r-n over that) i get the odorless kind. and so- not only am i living in a chaotic apartment in a state of flux- i am in a state of mind that is in a state of flux. you will have to bear with me- i am not in any mood to deal with the dirty politics and the corruption and whatnot. i am not overly optimistic about our current and future prospects as a country and a planet- so i have tried to keep it on the down low because some folks need to maintain their hope. just fair warning that it won't necessarily be the hard hitting ranting i am known- and loved :)- for. hee. i will be reading and passing stuff along though. after the woodwork, painting and cookies are done :)

if you want some coffee and conversation, you can wander over and peek in at scrap paper- we are trying our hand at collaborative writing and sharing music and stories and whatnot. i tried my hand at decorating- and if i failed miserably- don't hesitate to tell me :) i also changed the look at betmo's corner- i do like those free templates at pyzam. let me know what you think.

You just relax with hubby and bake your Christmas cookies. My x always did that. I only do the gift thing because my better half insists.
I am a Christian but it isn't my fault. Christmas is in the air and it is all about the atmosphere. Relax and enjoy!

Something baked is more personal than something bought.

re: the gift thing - i really like "secret santa" with items costing under $25. i don't need "things" at this point in my life (although i wouldn't turn down an offer for interior painting!) - this year, more than most, tangible gifts seem inadequate. i'm tired of feeding the materialistic monster.

Do you want my address now, or later? My wife is abandoning me for California. Here I'll be - poor me - no wife, no cookies....(:

Don't get any of the odorless stripper in the cookie batter. It gets me sick to my stomach:-)

Way too early for me to start cookies. This year, we will go to my daughter's place. The one with all the kids. We'll congregate there on Christmas Eve. That is the only function I am doing this year. I will call my Mother on the phone and wish her a Merry Christmas as well.

For most, being Christian has nothing to do with what the corporations call Christmas. The TV ads are obscene. Lexus' and diamonds will make your spouse love you.

And the money. I can't tell you how many times we went deep into credit card debt to buy gifts. A dumb move, especially for the kids. They unwrap package after package and don't know who gave them what. They play with the new stuff, then tire of it. That's where all the stuff in their room came from in the first place.

No curmudgeon here, just a realist.

Peace to All.
