thought for tuesday- what is impeachment?

impeachment under the united states' constitution:

Impeachment in the United States is an expressed power of the legislature which allows for formal charges to be brought against a high official of government for conduct committed in office. The trial or removal of an official is separate from the act of impeachment. Typically, the lower house of the legislature will impeach the official and the upper house will conduct the trial.

At the Federal level, the House of Representatives has the sole power of impeaching the President, Vice President and all other civil officers of the United States. Officials can be impeached for: "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." The United States Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments. The removal of impeached officials is automatic upon conviction in the Senate.

Impeachment can also occur at the state level; state legislatures can impeach state officials, including governors, according to their respective constitutions.

united states constitution:

article 2

Section. 4.

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

and to think that the republicans wanted to impeach Clinton based on an affair..tsss...
thanks for the clarification Betmo, it's all in the 'fine print' and next time I'd argue/discuss/make my case for impeaching Bush..I can go back and reference this to make my points clear!! Btw... since I have so many blogs that I visit and know of three bloggers who are pregnant, does that include you?? I am trying to not get confused since 'they' do not always write about it of course!! (gotta keep my 'bloggers straight'! lol)

Once again, your usual stellar work and results!!

The problem with "laws", is we can make them, make them tougher, make them hell on earth....but until somebody applies them as written, they don't mean diddly shit, and they fix absolutely nothing! Remember all the GOP braying over "the rule of law" when they wanted Bill's ass? You can't FIND a Republican who will repeat that phrase in public now!!

Shsssh!! Those words have doomed more than one.:)

Impeachment is off the table because a blowjob or the mighty Clenis wasn't involved. Nothing to see here....move along....these aren't the droids you are looking for....

The hypothetical I wonder about in the Senate is, what if old turncoat Joe Lieberman votes aginst Impeachment (assuming you can heard the rest of the cats in the Democratic Party together) and the tie breaker has to go to the Vice President? Does he have to recuse himself?

Good solid information here, Betmo. I say, if we don't use impeachment now for this criminal President and his VP, we might as well tear up the paper it's written on. And, if we don't use impeachment it opens the door and says we will lay down and take anything they dish out.
