from one american...to the others...

we have lost our way...

on the eve of the dumbocratic convention- on the heels of the rethuglican convention- i say that we may as well get our heads out of our asses and realize that our country is over...no, not just 'the dream' of middle class homeownership with the kids and the dog but the idea of america

because, quite simply, we have ceased to be americans...

we squabble over whether or not gay folks should marry; whether or not women should have reproductive rights; whether or not we should provide affordable health care to millions of fellow citizens and meanwhile, our civil liberties have been stripped away and our constitution shredded...and you probably think i am crazy- but i'm not...

i blogged about this right here while cheney/rumsfeld and ashcroft/gonzalez ran the show and i even blogged that once the genie was out of the bottle- there's no stuffing him back in...and, apparently, i was correct...

the biggest issue i have is all of the folks holding public office or working in local, state and federal government positions...all of the folks who serve in our legitimate armed services and our mercenary ones...all of the folks who line up to vote each election time- or work the elections...all of them are americans...each and every one...

each and every person who wants to 'support our troops' is an american...each and every flag waving patriot is an american...and with the exception of a few- very few folks- most americans are either oblivious to life outside of their personal bubble or they condone the coup that took place in this country 12 years ago...

that means left as well as right...look, i am guilty of the 'good god! think of the alternative!' mode of voting- trust me when i say that i would never willingly vote right on most issues...trust me when i say that i would not vote willingly left on most issues right now either because the left is part of the problem...

the biggest issue i have is that americans have 'outsourced' their citizenship as easily as the capitalists created a global economy...we let our constitution go with nary a peep because we believed we only had 2 amendments to worry about... we cannot be american if america no longer exists...

what have we become? when we live in a country that decries china for human rights violations but whose president CURRENTLY has the power to indefinitely detain, torture and murder american citizens on american soil or abroad- and fellow americans tune out and tune in to the latest episode of 'jersey shore'...do we have the right to be proud of this country?

there are some good parts to america still but the rot started from inside...it started with us...with 'we, the people'...we can blame the politicians and we can blame the 'one percenters' but really, we are to blame because we, the people, did not say no...did not stand up and say- not in my name...we chose to keep our homes and cars and big screen tvs and hide in our mcmansions while innocent folks thousands of miles away were blown to smithereens by drones in the name of profit...

i would love to see some occupy footage of americans standing up for civil liberties- so feel free to share links...so far, it's been mostly holding bankers' feet to the fire to get our money back...priorities, priorities...

Excellent. I hear you. I wish more Americans would hear you as well.
