british take on american politics

my husband, half seriously, asked where we wanted to live if palin gets elected. france? sweden? canada and the uk are looking way too much like here for my tastes lately. but nevertheless, the brits are still curious as to how we survive i think. george monbiot-the guardian

"How was it allowed to happen? How did politics in the US come to be dominated by people who make a virtue out of ignorance? Was it charity that has permitted mankind's closest living relative to spend two terms as president? How did Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle and other such gibbering numbskulls get to where they are? How could Republican rallies in 2008 be drowned out by screaming ignoramuses insisting that Barack Obama was a Muslim and a terrorist?"

i don't know george. there are millions of us who want to have an answer to those questions too.

You would think a Brit would see the American Reich implementing Orwellian totalitarianism.
Ignorance is strength, freedom is slavery, war is peace, the slogans of Big Brother, are standard Republican operating principles.

You know what...I think its taxes. All they have to do in their campaigns is throw around the idea of lowering taxes and Americans jump on it. No one wants to pay their taxes. I started noticing in the local political candidates ads that's all they say. "He's lowering taxes, he's raising taxes".... as if this is the only concerning issue.

Apathy has been sitting in the white house longer than anybody. Apathy just has a lot of costumes. There were less ways to vote for apathy than anybody else. The ONLY way you could vote for apathy was stay home.

And we did. In droves. For decades.
