filed under- wtf?

all i can say is wow. just wow.

"Clayton Mayor Gregg Manning disagrees. And wonders what Katie and Sabrina might do with that produce stand if the zoning laws weren't enforced.

"They may start out with a little card-table and selling a couple of things, but then who is to say what else they have. Is all the produce made there, do they make it themselves? Are they going to have eggs and chickens for sale next," said Manning.

Lucky for Katie and Sabrina their folks don't have lemon trees.

"Lemonade stands are technically illegal, but they don't last long enough to do anything about," said Manning."

what the hell kind of childhood did this guy have? the kids are 11 and 3 years old for chrissakes. it isn't like they are running crack on the streets or something. they sell the surplus from their garden for 4 hours once a fucking week. look deeply people because this is what america has become. we have become the land of permits and ordinances and curfews and rules and laws- and think about the fact that we live in a country where you can't sell lemonade if you are a kid or a goddamned tomato. color me proud.

Has that food been inspected by the FDA?

no- it's a backyard garden that had some surplus and little kids were selling to make some piggy bank money. i have a hard time thinking that a backyard garden's veggies would be anymore toxic than monsanto's genetically modified seeds or the food poisoning inducing veggies from agribusiness. i think that the mayor is an ass. i get the zoning thing- but seriously- there were garage sales up the ying yang here today- are they going to start demanding you get a small business license to sell your old crap?

His copy of Biology Book doesn't appear to be the latest. either.:)

From my earliest memory, I ate "non inspected grown here" food. When I got on my own, one of the first things I did was find a farmer that raised organic beef to sell, and a farmer with a good flock of chickens, in that order. I never bought an egg or steak out of the store until I moved down here. Now I'd give my soul for two eggs that looked like they came from chickens, instead of Robins! Fuck the FDA!
