indeed

"This new depression, which I call The Long Emergency, will play out against the background of a society that has pissed away its oil endowment, bulldozed its factories, arbitraged its productive labor, destroyed both family farms and the commercial infrastructure of main street, and trained its population to become overfed diabetic TV zombie "consumers" of other peoples' productivity, paid for by "money" they haven't earned." jim kunstler

burning down the house- talking heads

Watch out
You might get what youre after
Cool babies
Strange but not a stranger
Im an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the partys over
Hold tight were in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Heres your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, maybe you know where you are
Fightin fire with fire

All wet
Hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown
Dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

My house
Sout of the ordinary
Thats might
Dont want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin yet
Everythings stuck together
I dont know what you expect starring into the tv set
Fighting fire with fire

Betmo, it amazes me how we Americans have been such fools to sit by and watch the GOP dismantle an economy that was number one in most respects when Ronald Reagan took office, and redistribute all that wealth to the few in the capstone of the economic pyramid.

It is not so much that we just sat by. Some just didn't seem intelligent enough to care. Those of us that see what is happening don't matter and are powerless to do anything.

You read my stuff on the second great Depression I think. Because of what you said this will be worse once it gets going. I am just stupefied that anyone at all is surprisd by this. It took Bush a long time to set this up and it has to happen for him to follow his plan.

That is a great quote and....I love the song, just never realized the true meaning of the words.
Average Patriot makes a good point, this totalitarian criminal regime has done plenty of damage, but they have been burying IED's for the next president.
The result won't be pretty.
and it will be the dems' fault so will sayeth the "liberal media."

I hope that America can survive this terrible apathy that has allowed the Evil Ones to destroy so much that was good.

Time to gird the loins, pick up the cudgels, and drive the intruders out.

Cheers.

Well, said, Betmo! As an old guy (57) I've seen some awful things come around, but this seems to be the worst. Americans are showing just how dumb we have become, wasting away the things that matter and watching idly as a president does whatever he wants and uses scare tactics like 9/11 to justify it all.
I feel sorry for whomever takes office after Bush, because they are going to be stuck with a horrendous mess :(
