lovely environmental monday

cool here today- but i would rather have it cool than hot! dry too- we have been having fires here too- but not on the scale as the south and west. i think that it is a good time to remind folks to conserve water even if you aren't in drought conditions. water isn't something to take for granted. you can always grow your own food- you can't make your own water. anyhoo- we had a nice time yesterday with mom- hubby and i degrubbed the lawn and then we all had 'chinese food' for dinner. hubby made a really bad joke- 'what do chinese people call chinese food?' we all laughed and had a nice time.

plants are growing on the front porch- will take some pics when i remember. right now- i have some tomatoes and peppers (don't really know what's growing since i was an idiot and didn't label), cucumbers and lettuce coming up. hope to have some beans soon too. going to check out the compost this week- gotta turn it. will post on how that's coming too. got much of the plants planted at both houses- won't know until next spring what decided to live and die- but hey, that's life. gotta get spring cleaning too- dustbunnies are taking over the house. been putting it off- cause i had to have the heat on last night. down in the middle 30 degrees. covered stuff on the porch- so we are fine. anyhoo- be as green as you can be! i promise i will start posting some pics in the near future.

Sounds like a lovely day. I'll be tattooing on my "cottage garden" sleeve client today, which is great on multiple levels, as I love doing the artwork, I adore the client and I get to make $$ doing what I love!

my lawn is infested with grubs- they eat the roots of the grass leaving great big brown spots as the grass dies. i realized we had a problem when the brown spot out back kept getting bigger and i started digging up the front yard to put flowers in. so- you get stuff to spread on that supposedly kills them- and then you reseed and fertilize. voila`!

How does one de-grub a lawn???

you buy some sort of grub poison that comes in a bag and you spread it on the lawn. then you water it- then reseed and fertilize. how successful it will be is up in the air. never done it before.

We have egrets and little anoli lizards who degrub for us. Handy little bug eating friends. It feels good to get out there and get the hands dirty, for sure.

Hmm, that sounds lovely!

On Monday, I was fooled by the sun, and by the calendar showing May 14th, and forgot to check the weather channel; that would have shown me it was 8C degrees, lowering to -5 with wind chill; but going up to 21 towards noon!!!!

I have a cold now! sniff :)
