post for what?

i just don't even know where to begin anymore. i have heard the word 'tired' quite a bit lately and i am only supposing that means 'defeated.' has the time come to just let the world go? what exactly is it that we are fighting to save? i watched the convocation on tv for the students at virginia tech and i was completely and utterly disgusted. it wasn't about the students- it was a photo op for the rethugs who were there in full mourning regalia. as if they gave a flying fuck. words. that's all they have are words to twist and turn and bludgeon people with. it wasn't until the end when the student leader of the buddhist chapter on campus spoke that i felt someone was speaking for the students. then you have harry reid calling for restraint on stricter gun laws. no knee jerk reactions to this says he. rosie o'donnell being skewered in the hate media for what? speaking her mind. she gets called fat and worse- a fat lesbian. one kind 'person' wrote to her and told her that her kids will grow up to hate her because....she is gay. nice. these are americans.

what really takes the cake for me is the sheer hubris and hypocrisy of the right and especially the bible belt. these self righteous folks have the most hate group activity of anywhere in the nation- except california. state for state i guess they offset their churches with hate groups. or maybe their hate groups meet in their churches. i guess what got me going was reading earl's latest post at the peace train. being a woman who speaks her mind- i guess i have been pretty lucky on the internet so far. the most i have been fearful of is a knock at the door from the feds telling me it was time to go to the detainment center. so far- fingers crossed- that hasn't happened. stalking and hate crimes on the internet; hate speak in the media- this country is an ugly place that seems to be becoming more and more gleeful at torture and killing as a way to solve things. i guess i draw the line at minors though. i mean we are supposed to be a family oriented society and the right wing rethugs have supposedly cornered the market on what it means to have good american christian values so i suppose it surprised me at the venom and vulgarity shown towards some of these women.

so- i ask again- what am i posting for? what are we fighting for? because quite frankly it doesn't appear that the majority of people in this country give a flying fuck how things turn out as long as they have cable tv and running water- oh and the sale flyers are in sunday's newspaper.

I agree with Mr. Reid on this issue:

"I think we ought to be thinking about the families and the victims and not speculate about future legislative battles that might lie ahead."

I feel like a broken record, I've said the same thing on every single blog. But, we need a time of mourning for these individuals. Then we can get on with the dirty work of politics.

This tragedy is going to fuel debate, no doubt on that aspect.

As for Rosie, she is disliked so much because she is a female who is vocal about politics. My dad hates her for that simple reason. Plus, she "attacked" Tom Selleck about gun rights.

Rosie is seen as a "threat" toward the "traditional" values that the right-wing claims to represent. However, you are so right here - the venom spewed by the talking heads is scary and definitely not Christian.

By the way, you are posting because you care about your country. Don't give up.

Both. I note we're only 6 behind La La land, and they have much more to hate out there. Yea Us!..(:

You asked questions I have no answers for, except one:

"Hope."

Plus,it's fun to watch people go nuts on here, once in a while.:)
