superbowl sunday

well, i am going to spend my day getting ready for the big game tonight. have to go to the fam's first- and then when i get home- homemade dip and pizza for the festivities. other than football, we don't watch much sports- unless you consider the world poker tour a sport :) for hubby and i, it's a bonding experience because neither of us gives a damn who wins. we are not what you may call 'fanatics.' in fact, we know just about zero facts or stats on any team anywhere. i know a few quarterbacks and a few coaches- and that's it. the only thing i can say with any certainty is that 1) i can't stand tom brady and the patriots- that i do know from watching a few seasons, and 2) i like watching the colts with payton manning play. i like tony dungees low key approach- as opposed to the baby eater chuckie in tampa bay- john gruden. i think that the only time i ever saw him smile was when they won the super bowl a few years ago. anyhoo- that's how i will be spending my day. i hope that the colts win- but if the bears win- that's ok too. they deserve their moment in the sun after 20 something years or whatnot. the only thing i am cheering today is brady watching from---home!! :)

Betmo, I have a dog in this hunt. I'm from Chicago. However as a Bear fan, I was disgusted by the fan who insulted the Saints with his insulting sign "The Bears will finish what Katrina started". Also I was disgusted that no Bear fans stepped forward to stop the other insults.

I'm down on the Bear fans, but still up for the team.

Betmo, likewise I could care less about the outcome of the game. My team isn't in it, so I'll be watching mainly for the commercials.

Like most Super Bowls, it will probably end up being a "Super Bore" - one team most likely will sprint away with the lead and we'll abandon it after the half.

But I'm with you on the pizza and bonding. Sports is the one thing that my significant other and I agree on.

Nice to see a dignified man like Tony Dungy have his day in the sun. To go from getting the boot in Tampa (only to see Chucky take them to the promised land), personal tragedies in his own life such as the loss of his son, and finally get to the mountain-top of his profession is a good story to absorb. What a kind and noble person this man is. Even his religions platitudes at the end did not bother me one bit. Go ahead and praise God, brother Tony. If any man has earned the right to use the national spotlight to espouse his or her faith,... that is you.

Why don't you like Tom Brady? Just curious. Hope you enjoyed the game, b.

truth-pain, I can easily cheer for the Colts and Tony Dungy as a bear fan. His religious activities however are something else as this banquet ticket shows.

Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy will be the guest of honor next month at a major fundraiser for one of the lead homophobic organizations in Indiana, the Indiana Family Institute. The IFI is affiliated with super homophobe James Dobson and his extreme right, anti-gay Focus on the Family.

But what's even worse, the Colts appear to have endorsed the fundraiser, apparently permitting their logo to appear on the event's official flyer, and permitting the coach to appear in the flyer in uniform and on the job.

Yes, in America you have the right to be a homophobic bigot and lend your name to help intolerant anti-civil-rights groups raise money. But that doesn't make it right. I seriously hope Tony Dungy and the homophobic Colts won't be popping up in any commercials for any companies any time soon.

huh- did not know that about the colts. it is really too bad that they are choosing to do this- i guess that they have the right but it is sad nevertheless.

why i don't like tom brady- well, i started disliking him around the time i started disliking the patriots- for the same reason i don't support the yankees. the biggest reason is he is cocky and arrogant and feels that he is entitled to win everything. yes, i realize i just described almost every professional sports team in america. there is just something about the way that he carries himself that grates on me. i can't really explain it. personality conflict?

hey earlbo,

thanks for the heads up on the Colts, I did notice how often their owner likes to give credit to God for the team's wins, so I am not surprised. I do think some heat should be turned up on Manning's ad sponsors, AND Dungy does an ad also.

Yes, b, you are correct, they have every right to speak, and we have every right to turn up heat on their advertisers. I will start making mental notes.

and b, I almost never disagree with you at all, much less twice in 1 week, but cocky or not, Brady is hot!!!
