the rainbow connection

apparently, michael jackson had it wrong and it does matter if you're black or white. there is a new study out that found that folks in america who are lighter skinned are able to get more jobs and make more money. hmmm..... imagine that. here in the land of the free and home of the brave- there still isn't equality of the races. i find it ironic that the 'nation' celebrated martin luther king, jr. day recently and that the closest that his dream has gotten is lip service and covert racism. this is the local brain trust in my home town: rethink king holiday. feel free to check out the comments too.

race- are we so different?

There is the insidious unspoken form of racism that exists in this country. And I honest to god believe it is based in the fear of white male america losing its dominance. Go a little farther south, and its out in the open, talked about freely, and almost refreshing in its honesty.

in the old days it was de facto and du jure, either by social or state laws. either way it applies to all races even whitey

"Whitey" is the one who gets all the positive effects, according to the study Betmo posted. However, I don't think a study was necessary to point out the obvious.

and studies are studies, if you need a study to see the impact of racism you need to get out of bunker/shell. I see the impact of it everyday and still fight the fight. The whitey remark was for grins and giggles. Just me was right about white fear, now the huge influx of hispanics are being racism to a different level with blacks. Reminds me of the Irish arriving and there welcome mats. I am not implying anyone here is igorant, far from it, just a little won down from the daily reminders.

i think for me- we all have to take a look at the truth. too often, we look at racism as lynching and what not- but it is also many small everyday attitudes. america has to realize that the rest of the world is bigger than us- and our purist attitudes are ridiculous. our way of life came from melding many cultures and races into one country. we have lost sight of this.
